A studio should feel like home; a safe place for your child to grow. We believe selecting a dance studio should be done with careful consideration and we encourage families to ask many questions and take a tour before committing. If you are searching for a new studio this season, consider the list below: Values and Ethics Quality dance education goes far beyond the doors of a dance studio or a performance stage. Look for a studio that instils admirable ethics and offers a strong foundation of discipline, courtesy, leadership, challenge and creativity.
Qualifications of Teachers and Directors Do the teachers have adequate dance experience? Teachers should have years of training and performance experience. It is a good sign to see teachers, who give correction during classes. Expect to see them walking around and physically make corrections on students, as opposed to simply spouting out combinations and leaving it at that.
Age Appropriateness A studio that focuses on health and technique does not need to have compromising moves or costumes. Also, a studio should not introduce your child to mature music with questionable lyrics.
Your Dancers Goals To improve technique? To make new friends? Be sure to align your dancers goals with services offered at the studio.
Additional Fees Honesty and integrity goes along way. Ask what fees to expect in addition to tuition. Is there is a dress code and if so, what colour and style is expected. Certain shoes and attire can come at an added cost, especially if you expect your child to grow throughout the season! Ask the price of costumes, recital tickets and photo packages
Class Placement Being placed in the proper class is very important for maximum growth. Dancers should be in a class where they are challenged to grow and learn, but not feel over their head. Often times in dance classes, this will mean placing students by experience and ability rather than based solely on age.
Safety As with any physical activity, there is a risk for injury. But a good dance studio will take great efforts to reduce the risks. A reputable dance studio will have a constructed dance floor, often called “Marley”.
Why TDA? As educators our goal is to stimulate, inspire, motivate and encourage students to reach their potential not just in dance but their everyday lives. Indicated by their bios, our teachers are extremely qualified with credentials and dance related small businesses of their own. We strive to offer a fair and affordable dance experience with total transparency when it comes to fees.
Our two studio rooms have a roll out Marley floor and teachers will not instruct students to attempt anything that would be hazardous. Dancers are discouraged from pushing through injuries that they should be resting.
We keep dancers best interest at heart, first and foremost; providing non-compromising costuming and clean song lyrics. Additionally, TDA takes special interest in each dancer’s goals and learning style. Nobody is centred out and corrections are offered in a kind and constructive manner.
Contact us to tour the studio and ask lots of questions! We look forward to meeting you!
